Are the fossil walks child/ family-friendly?
Yes! Our walks are suitable for all ages and abilities! However, we advise 1-hour private walks or public walks for children aged 5 and under.
Are dogs welcome on the fossil walks?
Yes! Well-behaved pooches are most welcome on all our walks! Our localities are all dog-friendly beaches all year round.
Do we stand a chance of finding a fossil?
Yes! We guarantee that on every walk, and at every locality, you will find plenty of fossils! No one will walk away empty-handed!
What is the accessibility of your localities?
Most of our walks are accessible for anyone with mobility issues, with Thorness Bay and Shanklin Chine being the most accessible! Compton Bay has a set of stairs to the beach, and Grange Chine has a slightly steep slope for beach access.
Please email us at info@wightcoastfossils.co.uk to discuss any issues regarding beach access. We are more than happy to accommodate and advise regarding any needs you may have.
How much are your fossil walks?
When do you run fossil walks?
Our private walks are run all year round, and public walks are during school holidays only. The walks are dependent on the tides, which change daily.
For our walk availability, please email us at info@wightcoastfossils.co.uk or fill in the online booking form.
How many people do you have on your public walks?
We usually have around 20 – 30 people attending our public walks. This can be slightly more during very busy periods.
Do we need to bring any specialist equipment?
Not at all! Just a bag or bucket to put your finds in, and wear sensible footwear for walking on a beach/ over rocks.
We suggest either beach shoes, wellies or walking boots.
Which localitiy is best for children?
If you have a dinosaur mad child, we always suggest Compton Bay, as there’s plenty of fossils to be found and we get to see the dinosaur footprints!
If you have already seen the footprints, our other localities, Grange Chine, Shanklin Chine and Thorness Bay are all excellent beaches, with lots of fossils to find!
